Berlin Wall, the
Ber|lin Wall, the [ `bɜrlın ,wɔl ]
the wall that divided the German city of Berlin from 1961 until 1989. It was built to stop people from escaping from Communist East Berlin and became a symbol of the COLD WAR between Communist countries and the West. It is often simply called the Wall.
